About Michael Rusnak, MD

Dr. Mike Rusnak is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon.

Dr. Rusnak is one of OCR’s trauma and fracture specialists, along with Robert Baer, MD, Riley Hale, MD, and George Chaus, MD.

He takes care of patients’ fractures and orthopaedic trauma in most every part of the body — from the shoulders down to the feet. The only fractures Dr. Rusnak does not provide care for are those involving the head, spine, and fingers.

Individuals who have complications and problems after recovery, such as pain, loss of function, stiffness, and mal-united fractures, also receive care in Dr. Rusnak’s practice.

He joined the Orthopaedic & Spine Center in 2008, after completing advanced training in trauma surgery and fracture care in a fellowship program at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. (Fellowship programs provide physicians with an additional, or sixth, year of orthopaedic surgery training following the completion of their residency program.)

Dr. Rusnak completed his residency training at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he also obtained his medical degree.

He holds board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

He takes care of patients from OCR’s service area of northern Colorado, Wyoming, and western Nebraska.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Rusnak enjoys spending time with his family, or heading out for a ride on his bicycle.

Post-Op Instructions

“Dr. Rusnak is an excellent trauma surgeon. I had a pilon fracture in Steamboat, where I had my fixator applied and then transferred to Dr. Rusnak’s care for the repair. Pilon fractures are complex, and he did an incredible job putting my leg back together. He was personable, compassionate and professional. Hist staff was friendly, accommodating, and professional as well.”

“I destroyed my ankle, broke my leg after 20ft fall in Estes Park. My local doctor described the bits of my ankle in the original x-rays as a “star field of dots”. Dr. Rusnak’s miraculous reconstruction of my talus saved my foot, my ability to walk, and my 20+ career as a broadcast photojournalist. Still covering news on the streets of Austin Texas 7 years later! Thank you, Dr. Rusnak!”
