Known at CSU as Loree Smith, Loree Thornton was a member of the women’s track and field team from 2002-2005 and was the NCAA champion in the hammer throw during her senior season. Between Indoor and Outdoor All-American Awards, Loree holds 11 total titles, and she still holds the record for the CSU hammer throw at 70.03 meters. During her athletic career, Thornton sustained a left tibia stress fracture and was living in constant pain for nearly two years before deciding to have surgery. She credits the OCR physicians with getting her back into competition form, giving her the ability to train at a high level so she could go on to compete in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
