About Patrik Suwak, DO
Dr. Patrik Suwak is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in the care of adolescent and adult patients with a variety of spinal conditions, including disc herniations, radiculopathy, sciatica, myelopathy, spinal stenosis, instability (spondylolisthesis), and fractures of the spine. Dr. Suwak aims to treat his patients with a conservative approach by optimizing the least invasive treatment plan first. For patients where surgery is appropriate, he employs both minimally invasive and traditional techniques. Dr. Suwak is trained in the use of cutting-edge computer navigation and robotic technology to allow for rapid pain relief and a speedy recovery to get patients back to enjoying their favorite activities.
Dr. Suwak completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, where he served as chief orthopedic resident at University Medical Center taking care of patients with complex spinal trauma. At LSU, he received accolades such as the Jack L. Winters Research Award for publications in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery and textbook authorship. After residency, he specialized his surgical training even further by completing a competitive spine surgery fellowship at the renowned Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, MN, America’s first orthopedic spine fellowship founded in 1971. Here he worked with leaders in the field of spine surgery, developing his skills in minimally invasive, robotic, and open deformity correction techniques.
Dr. Suwak was born in Slovakia and moved to The United States as a young child. He is fluent in Slovak and Czech languages. He completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Pittsburgh, followed by medical school at A.T. Still University in Arizona. He is an avid skier and is excited to return to the Mountain West and serve the active outdoor communities of Northern Colorado. Dr. Suwak feels that providing exceptional patient care begins with sitting down with his patients, getting to know their lifestyle and activity goals, and developing a treatment plan together. With surgery as a last resort, he offers the latest advancements in surgical techniques to optimize function and recovery.
Outside of work, Dr. Suwak enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, and working on medical illustrations. He is honored to be joining The Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies and providing the highest standard of care to every patient.
